Linear Greenway Spine
A continuous elevated park stretches along the former rail embankment, serving as Jersey City’s new “green spine.” It provides an uninterrupted pedestrian and cycling route that connects diverse neighborhoods through nature and movement.
Multiuse Pathway System
The design includes a 10–12-foot-wide primary pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, complemented by smaller footpaths weaving through garden zones. This creates safe, ADA-accessible circulation that invites both commuters and leisurely walkers.
Access Plazas and Gateways
Ramped and stairway entrances at major intersections such as Marin Boulevard and Brunswick Street act as urban gateways. Each plaza doubles as a social node with wayfinding signs, seating, and art to welcome visitors into the elevated landscape.
Ribbon of Gardens and Meadows
​Alternating segments of wildflower meadows, native gardens, and community orchards create rhythm and diversity along the embankment. These plantings enhance biodiversity while offering distinct atmospheres for reflection, play, and community gardening.
Artifact Walk
Historic rail fragments, switches, and stonework are preserved as sculptural installations telling the story of Jersey City’s industrial past. Interpretive plaques turn these remnants into an open-air museum that grounds visitors in the site’s history.
Cultural and Event Plazas
Designated open areas accommodate markets, performances, outdoor film screenings, and seasonal festivals. These flexible event spaces foster cultural exchange and keep the park active throughout the year, echoing the success of projects like Domino Park and The Wharf.
Connectivity to the
East Coast Greenway
Re:space links directly into the regional East Coast Greenway, completing a crucial segment between the Hudson and Hackensack Rivers. This enhances Jersey City’s role in a larger car-free mobility network spanning the eastern seaboard.
Green Infrastructure Network
Rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable pavements manage stormwater naturally while doubling as educational features. The system mitigates flooding, improves air quality, and demonstrates how urban parks can serve as climate infrastructure.

Low-impact LED lighting lines pathways and plazas, ensuring safety without disturbing nearby homes or wildlife. The gentle illumination keeps the park accessible after sunset, extending community use into the evening hours.
